Prestonpans Pottery
Quick Overview
A definitive study of Scotland's heritage.
Prestonpans was the acknowledged centre of the Scottish pottery industry in the 18th century led by the Cadells, Gordons and Watsons. That tradition was carried through until the 1930's latterly by three generations of Belfields. Whilst utilitarian and household pottery was created so too wree some of the finest majolica, figurines and procelain. This outstanding artistic and industrial heritage is often overshadowed by the town's strong coal mining traditions which survived until the 1960's, but this long overdue scholarly work sets the record straight.
