    Quick Overview
A1 Poster by Andrew House:  Colonel James Gardiner commanded a dragoon regiment at the battle.  During the rout he persuaded a small group of foot soldiers to make a stand.  Gardiner was shot and struck by a Lochaber axe, and fell beneath the thorntree.  He was later discovered by his servant, who carried him to the manse at Tranent.  Gardiner's own house, Bankton, was meanwhile serving as the main field hospital.  At the manse, Beatrix and Mary Jenkinson attempted to assist him, but he died soon after arriving.  The sisters had previously met Prince Charlie in Duddingston.  It is said that the downstairs rooms were filled with victorious highlanders seeking shelter and provisions, unaware of the Colonel's presence above.
